Interpreting results

A. Search box

| Shows the search query that was entered during the search. This search query can be edited to perform a new search. |

B. Search button

| Click this button to initiate a search. Also it can be triggered by using Alt+S on the keyboard. |

C. Advanced search link

| Click this link to go to the advanced search page. |

D. Search help link

| Click this link to go to search help pages. |

E. HP Recommends

| For the most popular search terms, the HP recommends section will contain useful links to tools or documents targeted specifically to your search request. The HP recommends results are only defined for our most common search terms and will not display for less common search terms. |

F. Sort options

Click these links to sort results by date, document type or relevance. Default sort is relevance unless a preference was changed to something else.
- Relevance is calculated by the search engine based on the search query you enter and the contents of the pages or documents. The relevance value can best be used in comparison with other pages or documents in the same results set as a way of judging which document is more likely to contain the information you are seeking. It is a value from 1 to 100, with a higher number signifying a higher relevance value or score.
- Document Type - see document types
- Date is the date the document was created or last modified.

G. Other options

| Click this link to go to other search options at the bottom of the results page. These include: site map, search help, search HP.com, search self-solve knowledge search. |

H. Page or document title

| Click this link to view the page or document. Terms used in the search query will be bolded and highlighted. |

I. Open in new window

| Click this icon to view the page or document in a new window. This allows you to view the page or document without leaving the search results. |

J. Summary

| The summary describes the page or document. Terms used in the search query will be bolded and highlighted. |

K. Web address (URL)

| The web address (URL) is the address for the page or document. There is a preference to show or hide this information. By default it is hidden. |

L. Score

| This is the relevance score for the page or document based on the search query that was conducted. If this item is bolded, the results are being sorted by relevance. |

M. Document type

| This is the document type for the page or document. If this item is bolded, the results are being sorted by document type. |

N. Date

| This is the date the page or document was created or last modified. If this item is bolded, the results are being sorted by date. |

O. File size

| This is the file size of the page or document. |

P. File type

| This is the file type (i.e. .html, .pdf, .ppt, etc...) of the page or document. |
No results

| If you do not get any results, expand your search criteria. See search tips for help. |
Results by type

- Display of this sort is alphabetical by document type name.
- Up to 3 results per document type are displayed in the result list. Whenever more than 3 results exist for the document type, you may click on the see more results link.
- If no results were found for a selected document type, the document type title will not display and no results will appear in the display area. If you think that there should be results in the display for a particular document type, then refine your search. See search tips for help.

Highlighting words

| The words and stems of words from the search criteria you entered are shown in bold. The words highlighted can appear in no particular order throughout the search results summary. Highlighting is available on the search results summaries and titles. It is not available on web pages or documents. |
